Day 7: “Children of the Corn” (1984)

Cast: Linda Hamilton and Peter Horton

Director: Fritz Kiersch

Writer: Stephen King and George Goldsmith

The children have come to run the town. In this 1984 rendition of the Stephen King novel, Hamilton and Horton run into more than they bargain for. A religious cult has manifested in the town of Galvin. Here, the children have killed off all adults because “he who walks from behind the rows” told them to do so. The film is set to be remade in the next year, as it should be. The special effects are typical 1980s, and the acting is definitely mediocre.

What makes this film so different from many others is that the kids run it all. You normally deal with a psychopath teen or middle-ager, but in this film the town of children are the ones who are the biggest threat. This movie might make you stay out of the corn, and it might even make you not want to go to small towns.

Interesting Fact: There is an homage to one of the scenes in this film in “Jeepers Creepers 2.” See if you can find it.
